Built on a rich history.
Ens Quality Seed has grown out of a rich history of farming and seed production in the fertile soils of the Red River Valley on the sandy loam beaches of ancient Lake Agassiz near Winkler, Manitoba.
Settling in Reinland
The G.G.H. Ens family emigrated from Russia in the early 1920’s and settled in the village of Reinland. They began farming the rich, fertile soil which allowed for a diverse crop rotation. In the early years, sweet corn and canning peas were part of the rotation and were produced for the local cannery.
The Early Years
Seed production became part of the family’s operation in 1942. Gerhard grew Soybeans, Flax, and Wheat seed in the early years. The family farm was focused on dairy, grain, and seed production for many years with Abram and Armin at the helm of the family farm. The farm was incorporated in 1967 with Armin focusing on the dairy operation and Abram managing the crop and seed operation. In 1997 the dairy was phased out and the farm turned its focus to maximizing seed production.
